The Little Angel Theatre has confirmed the programme for the upcoming return of the Children’s Puppet Festival, an annual event to celebrate the art of puppetry in all forms this summer.

This year’s festival will feature a packed line up of inventive and imaginative work by award-winning companies for all age groups.

Among the highlights, two shows featuring in the programme combine puppetry with magic. Shoe Baby, will feature music from Tom Gray of award-winning band Gomez while Tales From The Lighthouse will present spellbinding puppetry, storytelling and original music performed by BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Nominee Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne.

With marionette puppetry added to the Red List of Endangered Crafts in 2023, the festival will highlight this important art form by including a jazz-inspired musical marionette show The Pigeon and the Peacock. As a further commitment to the future of
puppet-making, the festival gives a performance platform to our in-house Puppet Design Trainee who will be presenting their first show, The Tortoise and the Firefly, a fresh and imaginative take on African folk tales.

Also featured in the line up is Escape from the Bubble Tub and
entertain audiences with the hilarity of The Listies Make You LOL, the 5*
Edinburgh Fringe Festival smash hit show – both pushing the boundaries of what puppetry can be.

Meanwhile, there will be classic storytelling on display thanks to productions of timeless classic The Elves and the Shoemaker and much loved nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock.

Little Angel will be delivering a whole host of family and adult activities
throughout August including Puppet Playcations (holiday clubs for ages 5-9),
Craft Workshops for the whole family, Puppet Making Courses for adults
and “Hands On” introduction to puppetry sessions.

Little Angel Associate Director and curator of the Children’s Puppet Festival Oliver
Hymans said: “The Little Angel Theatre’s Children’s Puppetry Festival is a true
celebration of the incredible diversity of puppet theatre. From the delicate artistry of
marionettes to the playful inventiveness of object theatre, alongside laugh-out-loud
comedy and live music, the festival offers a magical experience for audiences of all
ages. This year, we’re especially proud to support a new graduate show from our design trainee, brought to life with the guidance of the LAT creative team – showcasing the next generation of puppet makers and theatre designers.”
