WhatsOnStage: **** “It’s not long enough. It’s not serious enough. Its historical accuracy is questionable. But like the best fringe shows, it burns bright and fast and leaves you wanting more. It is joyful, chaotic, queer, and smart, and exactly the kind of glitter-drenched, genre-bending mischief that makes you count down the days to August and the return of the Edinburgh Fringe.”

The Guardian: *** “It couldn’t be trashier but in the spaces between art history and anachronism, flamboyant rudeness and lyrical wit, there’s fun to be had.”

Theatre & Tonic: **** “It is truly a fantastically beautiful parody musical which will paint away your stress with absurd comedy and hilariously heartfelt power ballads. It has a shorter running time of 90 minutes with no interval, which mostly keeps the plot tautly paced and the audience helpless in pools of laughter. Wonderfully silly throughout, you will leave grinning ear to ear and with a renewed appreciation for all things Renaissance. If you enjoy cheeky musicals stuffed full with innuendo, cheeky pop culture references and fantastic cast chemistry, then this is the show for you.”

The Reviews Hub: *** “MarcAurele’s attractive song palette ranges from Cuban Salsa, through anthemic ballads, to funky electropop. There is one showstopper to enjoy in Pick Me Girl, an acerbic comment on vacuous celebrity culture, beautifully sung by Haakenson. The appealing Networking offers a pithy if overlong observation on the triumph of style over substance in superstar art circles. Sundeep Saini’s choreography makes the most of Underbelly Boulevard Soho’s limited stage space. Joe McNeice’s zippy direction keeps the momentum flowing.”

Musical Theatre Review: **** “While perhaps not the best place to revise for your upcoming exam on art history, Pop Off, Michelangelo! is a relentlessly entertaining and irreverent night out, a delightful tonic for our troubled times topped off with a sparkly pink cocktail umbrella. With its cutting humour and abundant pop culture references, this feels like a show that could be around for a long time. I look forward to it making fun of the celebrities of tomorrow – while still, importantly and necessarily – serving as a safe space for and celebration of LGBTQ+ communities in times of ever more terrifying oppression. This is a fabulous night out. Pop in.”

West End Best Friend:***** “A bright and loud celebration of self love and queer joy. Camp in the best way; exciting, hilarious and highly entertaining to watch.”

Broadway World: **** “Spectacularly camp and full of heart, this musical is undeniably a fabulous gay night out. Its crazy mixture of references – from Drag Race to the musical Parade –  makes it an instant cult hit. In the words of Camp Rock… ‘She’s really good.’ “
