NEWS: Almeida Theatre Announces Details of Rupert Goold’s Final Season

The Almeida Theatre has now unveiled details of Rupert Goold’s final season as the theatre’s artistic director.

Opening this newly announced season will be Romans by Alice Birch, which will offer a portrait of masculinity from the nineteenth century to the present day. Directed by Sam Pritchard, the production is set to star Olivier Award winner Kyle Soller (The InheritanceAndor). It will run at the theatre from the 9th September until the 11th October.

Following on from this will be stage adaptation of The Line of Beauty, based on Alan Hollinghurst’s novel. It is being adapted for the stage by Olivier Award nominee Jack Holden’s (Cruise; Kenrex) and directed by Michael Grandage. The show will play at the Almeida from the 21st October until the 29th November.

Meanwhile, new play Christmas day will take to the stage from the 9th December until the 10th January 2026. Directed by James Macdonald, this world premiere production of the play by  Sam Grabiner’s (Boys on the Verge of Tears) is a story of identity and belonging.

American Psycho the musical is set to return to the theatre from the 24th January until the 14th March. The musical features a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Music and Lyrics by Duncan Sheik and is based on the book by Bret Easton Ellis

Joe Hill-Gibbins will direct a new version of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, which is being adapted for the stage by Anya Reiss, with Romola Garai starring. This new production will run from the 31st March until the 16th May 2026.

Carmen Nasr returns to the Almeida with Under the Shadow, adapted from Babak Anvari’s BAFTA-winning film. It will take to the stage from the 2nd June until the 4th July and will star Leila Farzad (I Hate SuzieKaos).

Rebecca Frecknell will direct her final production as Almeida associate director next year, with a production of  Cleansed by Sarah Kane. The play will run from the 21st July 2026. until the 22nd August 2026.

It has also been announced that Josh O’Connor will star in Sam Yates’s production of Golden Boy by Clifford Odets, which will run from the 8th September 2026 until the 31st October 2026.

Tickets for Romans and The Line of Beauty will  go on sale on 3rd June for top-tier members, 5th June for friends and 10th June for the public. Tickets for Christmas Day and American Psycho in the autumn and all other shows in 2026.
