Here’s some of the books that we have on our book shelf that make for perfect summer reading…

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen: in the year that marks the 250th anniversary since Jane Austen was born, it would be remiss of us not to include a Jane Austen novel! This is one of the favourites as it shows the complexities of relationships and the ridiculousness of how rigid society was back then. There are so many different levels to Jane Austen’s work than simple tales of love and this book really highlights this.
We Solve Murders by Richard Osman: taking a break from the Thursday Murder Club, Richard Osman’s new bunch of characters embark on a worldwide adventure to solve several murders. While not quite on the same level as the Thursday Murder Club, it is still an entertaining read for the summer months – particularly with several of its glamorous locations.

The Little Cafe at the End of the Pie by Helen Rolfe: for a gentle, romantic read, this novel from Helen Rolfe is certainly worth looking at. There is such a lovely range of characters that all intertwine as the story progresses, having a lovely community vibe to it that will be relatable to many who live in a seaside town. It is a quick and breezy read that reflects all seasons perfectly.
Hera by Jennifer Saint: Greek mythology and new interpretations have been all the range recently. This latest one from Jennifer Saint, offers a new opportunity to re-evaluate the story and conception of the Queen of Olympus that is vividly written, alongside the plenty of drama that unfolds along the way. Saint humanises the Greek Gods and Goddesses in a way that is pleasing and engaging.

Long Island by Colm Tóibín: the extraordinary thing about this beautiful sequel to ‘Brooklyn’ is the fact that for those entering this world created by the author can do so without having read the first book. It is a story of love, family and regrets in regards to the life that could have been lived if choices had been different.
Think Again by Jacqueline Wilson: this adult follow up to Wilson’s ‘Girls’ series is wonderfully warm hearted and witty to read from start to finish. But just as importantly, it is relatable in the way in which it showcases that it is never too late to change to course of your life.

Always With Love, Giovanna Fletcher: this sequel to Billy and Me is heartwarming as it offers a sincere portrait of a relationship between two people who live very different lives individually. Plenty of laughs and emtoions are on display throughout, which is why it is always one of our go to books over the summer (along with Billy and Me of course).
