Love London Love Culture’s Theatre Picks: August 2025

Anne Boleyn the Musical, Hever Castle: where better to experience a musical based on the life of Anne Boleyn than in the grounds of the home that she grew up in? Directed by Roxanna Silbert, the story of Anne Boleyn will come to life in  in a specially constructed 1,800 seat outdoor auditorium and is set to star Emily Lane ( Hello Dolly at the Palladium, Frozen at Theatre Royal Drury Lane) as the central character. It will run from the 2nd to the 30th August.

Brigadoon, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre: this feels like a very special occasion as this is the first time that Lerner & Loewe’s musical is being performed in London for over 35 years. Running at the theatre from the 2nd August until the 20th September, the musical includes songs such as  ‘Almost Like Being in Love’, ‘Waitin’ for My Dearie’ and ‘The Heather on the Hill’. 

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, Sadler’s Wells: celebrating the 75th anniversary of C.S. Lewis’s classic novel, the acclaimed production returns to London for a limited season from the 20th August until the 7th September. It is directed by Mike Fentiman (based on the original direction by Sally Cookson) and follows the adventures of Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter as they discover the world of Narnia…

Interview, Riverside Studios: the world premiere stage production based on  Theo van Gogh’s provocative 2003 film with a screenplay by Theodor Holman, before  an early European stage production outside the UK, and then and its 2007 U.S. film remake with Steve Buscemi will run in London from the 23rd August until the 27th September. It is set to star Tony Award winner Robert Sean Leonard (Dead Poets Society; House; London: Our Town, To Kill a Mockingbird; Broadway: Sunday In The Park With George, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, The Invention of Love (Tony Award)) and Paten Hughes (A View From the Bridge; Stolen Girl; Heirloom).

The Animator, Southwark Playhouse: discover the story of Lotte Reiniger, the visionary who created the very first feature-length animation film, ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed – a whole decade before Disney’s ‘Snow White’. Running at the theatre from the 20th to the 30th August, the show is presented by Akimbo Theatre.

Romeo & Juliet, Stratford East: in a co-production with Sadler’s Wells, this new production of Shakespeare’s play will feature young artists and the local community to bring this story to life. It is running at the theatre from the 7th to the 9th August.
