NEWS: Benny Ainsworth’s ‘Vermin’ Returns to London

It has been announced that Benny Ainsworth’s ‘Vermin’ will return to London as part of a double-bill at the Park Theatre alongside (God Save My) Northern Soul, a dark comedy about love, loss and Northern soul music this September.

Running at the Park Theatre from the 9th to the 20th September, the production will see Sally Paffett return to her OffWestEnd Award-winning 2024 role, alongside playwright Benny Ainsworth as her troubled lover.

Their first kiss took place at the scene of a stranger’s suicide attempt – Billy (Benny Ainsworth) and Rachel’s (Sally Paffett, Lead Performance Winner, Offies 2024) romance was never destined to be ordinary.

A fast-burning love sees them marry, nest, and prepare for the future. But something is scratching beneath the floorboards. As their dream home is invaded by rats, the world they’ve built begins to disintegrate – exposing the rotten foundations beneath.

Talking about the news Benny Ainsworth said: “Attention spans are shorter than ever, so I wanted to write a piece about grief and madness to go off like machine gun fire – and keep a modern theatre audience entertained from start to finish. Horror digs its claws in deepest when a populous develops a mutual fear. In an age of connectivity, we are experiencing and fearing a new type of isolation as a species. Vermin’s themes are now more relevant than ever, and I can’t wait for its horror and heartbreak to capture a new audience.”

Directed by Michael Parker, the production’s creative team also includes: lighting design by Alex Lewer and sound design by Ben Sorab.
