A range of events will take place to celebrate Moomin’s Day – the birthday of Finnish writer, artist, and creator of the Moomins, Tove Jansson.

Taking place this weekend on the 9th and 10th August, London’s West End will celebrate the world of the Moomins.
At Waterstones Piccadilly, there will be a window installation designed by illustrator Elena Selena celebrating the world of the Moomins, while at the second floor cafe there is a Moomin themed afternoon tea to be enjoyed.
For those visiting the children’s section of the shop, there will also be a specially created installation for customers to enjoy. In addition, there will also be a Moomin superfan panel featuring Cariad Lloyd, Paul Gravette and Philip Ardagh, hosted by Guardian Chief Books Writer Lisa Allardice.
The weekend will be completed by a Moomin story time with Liz Fost on Sunday the 10th August. All these events tie in with the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories.
While this is all going on in Piccadilly, in Covent Garden for the first time ever the Moomin Shop will be hosting a special in-store event to celebrate the release of the cult collector’s item, the Moomin’s Day mug.
Every year, Moomin Arabia designs a limited edition mug to mark Moomin’s Day – the birthday of Finnish writer, artist, and creator of the Moomins, Tove Jansson. The design of the 2025 Moomin’s Day mug has ties in with the 80th anniversary celebrations for the Moomins, taking inspiration from illustrations in the very first story, The Moomins and the Great Flood.
In addition, the first 300 customers will receive a free tote bag and a luxury Moomin Arabia hand towel.
