As we head towards autumn, here’s a guide to some of the books to look out for in September.

The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown: its time for another enthralling thriller from the author of The Da Vinci Code, as symbologist Robert Langdon finds himself delving deep into the past of Prague on the his latest mystery. This first novel from the author in eight years, sees Langdon accompanying celebrated academic, Katherine Solomon, to a lecture she has been invited to give in Prague. But when she mysteriously disappears, Langdon must use all the skills he possesses to save the woman that he loves. It is set to be published on the 9th September.

No Friend to This House by Natalie Haynes: from the author of ‘Stone Blind’ this new novel available from the 11th September offers a retelling of Medea’s life and her turbulent relationship with Jason on his quest for the golden fleece. A tale of love and vengeance, no one is safe from the consequences of this unexpected relationship…

The Hallmarked Man by Robert Galbraith: those who have been eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the Strike series – the wait is nearly over! Published on the 2nd September, this latest investigation that Strike and Robyn have to deal with involves a dismembered body found in a silver shop – which is assumed to be that of a convicted armed robber but it turns out there is more to the story than originally expected. With increasing danger and mystery at every turn, Strike is also fighting his feelings for Robyn taking their relationship in a new direction….

What We Can Know by Ian McEwan: published on the 18th September, Ian McEwan’s latest novel revolves around a poem of which no written record appears to exist. Recited in 2014 and never heard again, this poem and its mysteries, sees generations speculate on its origins and meaning. The story then flashes forward to 2119, with the lowlands of the UK having been submerged by rising seas. Those who survive are haunted by the richness of the world that has been lost. Tom Metcalfe, an academic at the University of the South Down stumbles across a clue that might lead back to the poem and imagines a future world where all is not quite lost.

The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman: with the film based on the first book out in cinemas and on Netflix in August, the time is perfect for a new Thursday Murder Club mystery. Published on the 25th September, this new adventure sees the gang getting more involved with the world of weddings as wedding guest of an upcoming nuptial finds themselves in trouble – with murder, kidnap and death at the heels of the geriatric gang at their door once again can they solve the mystery before it is too late?
