Interview With… Joe Pettitt

What can audiences expect from the show? We’ve assembled a cast of great singers (Joe Stilgoe, Gary Williams and Julia Sullivan), each with their own brilliant style, to bring to life a really exciting selection of musical theatre repertoire. We feature works by the composers who really shaped both the jazz and show-tune canon of the 20th century. From Tin Pan Alley we feature music from Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin. We pay tribute to Brits, Leslie Bricusse, Anthony Newley and Lionel Bart. There are selections from Chicago and West Side Story. Basically you get three vocalists who’ve done everything, including staring West End roles, arguably the finest big band in Britain and 30-odd musical theatre greats!

How does it feel to be performing at the Cadogan Hall? It’s my favourite of the London concert halls when it comes to big band music. It’s big enough for the band to let rip without fear of deafening anyone, yet small enough to allow us to really connect with every seat in the house.

What would you say is your favourite Broadway show? It’s a tie for me: Guys & Dolls and 42nd Street.

What are you most looking forward to about performing ‘On Broadway’ for audiences? This is the debut of this particular show. Months in the planning, new arrangements commissioned and the first time we’ve had this combination of singers with us. When it kicks off, I know I’m in for as much of a treat as the audience is!
