We chatted to Louise about starring in the new adaptation of David Copperfield, performed by a cast of three, at the Jermyn Street Theatre.

Hi Louise, how does it feel to have to play a few characters in ‘David
Copperfield’? Hi Love London Love Culture. Playing multiple characters is always an entertaining challenge to say the least. In any show I do, one of my favourite parts of the job is discovering the character, finding out who they are and what makes them tick, and
this time I get to do it for nine different people! The real challenge is remembering
who I am at the start of each scene…
What has it been like working on this production so far? It’s been so much fun working on this show. Our rehearsals have been an entirely collaborative process; editing the script, uncovering how best to tell the story, and navigating entire scene changes in the space of one line, all while smoothly changing from a tophat and tailcoat into a bustle and bonnet – believe me the art of the ‘quick change’ is not an easy feat (thank God for our fantastic costume and production team!) The whole company is insanely talented, it’s wonderful to work alongside Eddy and Luke, with the keen eye of Abigail, our director. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a fun and exciting show.
What do you love about this story? I love how much heart this story has. For a book that was written so many years ago the themes are still very relatable; from love and loss, to self identity, and family politics – it’s such a rich and vibrant tale. As we journey through Davy’s life, it really does have something for everyone.
How does it feel to be bringing this show to the Jermyn Street Theatre? Jermyn Street Theatre has long been a beloved venue in the London theatre scene
so it’s incredibly exciting to be debuting this show here. On a more personal level
however, it’s also a venue I’ve always wanted to perform at, so to finally tread those
Jermyn Street boards feels amazing!
What can audiences, who have never experienced David Copperfield, expect? Expect to be taken on a wild journey full of laughs, lots of heart, and many many characters, entirely retold by a cast of three.
