The film based on the life of actor Ian Charleson is set to start filming on the 5th January 2026.

It has been announced that Olivia Coleman and Andrew Scott are set to star in the upcoming film Elsinore which is based on the life of Ian Charleson, written by BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee Stephen Beresford (Pride).
The film is set to be directed by Simon Stone and is focused on the time in Charleson’s life who faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London, having taken over the role from Daniel Day-Lewis.

Filming is set to begin on 5th January 2026, and an ensemble cast of British actors will be announced at a later date.
The film will be released theatrically in in the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand, with Lucky Red handling distribution in Italy.
Those involved with the film will include: cinematographer Mike Eley, production designer Helen Scott, costume designer Mel Page and editor Valerio Bonelli, with casting by Jessica Ronane.
