NEWS: American Premiere of ‘Kenrex’ Announced

It has been announced that Kenrex, based on a true story, written by Jack Holden and Ed Stambollouian, will begin performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre from the the 15th April.

Officially opening in New York on the 26th April, the production will once again star Holden and be directed by Stambollouian. It also features a score by John Patrick Elliott.

The show heads over seas following three successful runs in London at the Southwark Playhouse Borough, Sheffield Theatre, and, most recently, The Other Palace.

July 10th, 1981, Missouri. Smalltown bully, Ken Rex McElroy rules Skidmore with an iron fist. His ten year reign of terror has involved theft, intimidation, assault, abduction and attempted murder — but, thanks to his slippery defence attorney and the rusty cogs of the American justice system, Ken has never spent a night behind bars.

But, when Ken shoots pillar of the community, greengrocer Bo Bowenkamp and leaves him for dead, the good folk of Skidmore decide that enough is enough. If the courts won’t bring Ken to heel, they will.

“As much as UK audiences have responded to this play, at its core this is a deeply American story,” said Jack Holden and Ed Stambollouian. “We are thrilled for this chance to present it to American audiences.”

Kenrex also features set and costume design by Anisha Fields, lighting and video design by Joshua Pharo, sound design by Giles Thomas, with movement direction by Sarah Golding.
