We chatted with Rachel who is starring in Manic Street Creature at the Kiln Theatre.

Hi Rachel, how does it feel to part of Manic Street Creature?
It’s so exciting to be back with the show for the third time and to see it growing
and deepening.
For those of us yet to see the show, what can you tell us about it?
It’s about a woman who finds herself in a relationship that becomes all encompassing. It looks at how we are often attracted to people that repeat old relational patterns and how we cope when we’re caught in the middle of another person’s crisis.
What interested you the most about Maimuna Memon’s play?
It’s really unique to have a perspective of a close supporter of someone with mental health complications, as opposed to the person themselves. It’s a really vulnerable piece that has a lot that many of us can relate to, I think. And the music is beautiful!
How has it been working on the production so far?
It’s been so lovely to have another cast member (Sam Beveridge) in the show this time adding even more instrumentation and harmonies to the songs, it’s sounding so full and dreamy!
It is a show about music and memory, what songs for you bring back particular memories?
Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Breakaway’ album was a pivotal point in my childhood haha.
I was obsessed. If I’m having a rough day I still put it on and it gets those big feelings out.
What are you most looking forward to about London audiences experiencing the show?
I can’t wait for people to really connect with the story and the songs, it’s a
really intimate piece. And what a treat to experience it all at the lovely Kiln!
