The production will run for 11 performances only from the 11th to the 25th April.
Rehearsal images have now been released for Rob Ellis’s production of Noël Coward’s play in a version by Emma Rice.
The play follows Laura and Alec as they find each other by chance at a railway station. What begins as a fleeting act of kindness soon spirals into an all-consuming love – forbidden, passionate, and impossible to escape – as two ordinary lives are irrevocably changed by one extraordinary meeting.
Emma Rice masterfully weaves together theatre, music, and the magic of cinema. With renditions of Coward’s beloved songs and a cast of colourful characters, Brief Encounter captures the impossible pull of the heart, in the most spectacular love story.
The cast includes: Victoria Flint, Dom Ward, James Taverner, Deborah Ley, Matthew Vickers, Imogen Front, Tom Lafferty and Fiyin Ifebogun.
Talking about the news, Director Rob Ellis said: “I first saw Emma Rice’s Brief Encounter adaptation as a teenager on a trip to London, and it has always stayed with me. It had that unmistakable Kneehigh Theatre spirit – playful, inventive, and full of theatrical flair. Ever since, I’ve wanted the chance to work on this piece, and nearly 20 years later I’ve been given that opportunity.
“Brief Encounter is a story many people will recognise: two ordinary people meet, fall in love, and find themselves constrained by the expectations of the world around them. This production holds onto all the heart and humour of the original film, while also celebrating the writing and music of Noël Coward.
“What’s so exciting about the Tower Theatre is the chance to present a well-loved, widely recognised piece of theatre at a really high standard, but at a price that feels accessible.”
