NEWS: Release Date Confirmed for ‘Leonora in the Morning Light’

It has been announced that Thor Klein & Lena Vurma’s film Leonora in the Morning Light will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on the 29th May.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Elena Poniatowska, it follows the true story of surrealist painter, Leonora Carrington (OBE) (6 April 1917 – 25 May 2011).

In 1930s France, a young Leonora breaks free from convention and plunges into the surrealist circles of Salvador Dalí and André Breton. There she embarks on a passionate, volatile relationship with the charismatic artist Max Ernst. But, as the Second World War looms, Leonora is forced to confront her psychological demons, past and present. Fleeing to Mexico, Leonora finds a vibrant artistic community and forges the bold, mystical visual language and distinctive artistic voice that would define her legacy.

The film stars newcomer Olivia Vinall (Screen International Star of Tomorrow) as Leonora, alongside two-time German Film Award winner Alexander Scheer (Blood Red Sky), Mexican star Luis Gerardo Mendez (Narcos, Charlie’s Angels) and Ryan Gage (The Hobbit I&II).

Leonora in the Morning Light is an exploration of the life of one of the 20th century’s most visionary artists and a tribute to the healing power of creativity.
