The singer returns with a gorgeously constructed album.

Melodic and easy to listen to, Jamie O’Neal has clearly put in a lot of care and attention to her latest record. In every track there is real soul and emotion on display.
From the light and breezy sounding ‘Flowers & Fireflies’, which has a delicate quality to it that makes for a really enjoyable listen, which contrasts nicely with the darker and moodier ‘Just Whiskey’.
There is just so much variety on this album and not a single weak link on the album. Particular standout tracks include single ‘Slippery Slope’ which is delightfully catchy song about the impulsiveness of love and really captures the power of the songwriting skills that O’Neal has.
It feels like a proper country album, filled with delightful storytelling and a breezy atmosphere that means that the album flows through each track with ease and style. Album opener ‘Over New Mexico’ sets the album up perfectly with its soulfulness and Jamie O’Neal’s vocals been showcased well here as on ‘Change it Now’.
Elsewhere, ‘John Deere Letter’ shows a different side to her vocals, encapsulating the richness and diversity of how she is able to use her voice. The power of her vocals on this track alone is extremely impressive, while ‘My Midnights’ is a cool and sophisticated both musically and lyrically.
Through this concise and well structured release, Jamie O’Neal highlights why country music is such a strong genre. This is an album that is filled with a range of stories and life experience that keeps the listener enthralled over the 10 tracks that it includes.
Overall, ‘Gypsum’ is a solid album that is immensely easy and enjoyable from start to finish. A classy album that showcases Jamie O’Neal’s talents to the very best.
