Colin Mace in rehearsals for Equus (c)Manuel Harlan

I have always loved this play back to my time at Drama School. So a chance to be a
part of this production was very special.

Frank is a working class man from the 1970’s. His father was a steel worker but
Frank went to Grammer school and now has his own printing business. He is a good
provider for his family. He is a Union man and very left wing in his political beliefs. He
married into a middle class family. It can be difficult for him.

Working on the production has been exciting and emotional. The rehearsal process
has been very free. It’s been a journey of investigation, stripping back the story and
characters and finding the root of all the issues in the play.

The main reason is that, one, it’s beautifully written and two, it deals with universal
human themes such as, why are we here, how do we cope with trauma, grief, family
relationships and a lot of miscommunication between people. It’s a search for a
better understanding of who we are.

I believe the show will be powerful, truthful and very effecting. You won’t leave the
theatre the same person as you came in.
