The production will run at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre from the 2nd September until the 3rd October.

It has been announced that a new production of Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children will run at the Lyric Hammersmith this autumn.
Returning to the stage to celebrate the play’s 10th anniversary, it will be directed by Rachel O’Riordan, artistic director of Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.
In addition, it has been confirmed that Meera Syal will star in the production as Hazel, with further casting yet to be announced.
Hazel and Robin have survived a catastrophe. Living on the edge of a radiation exclusion zone, Hazel still practices her yoga and Robin’s brewing parsnip wine. They are trying to keep going, clinging onto normality.
That is until their old friend Rose knocks on the door. With her she brings old memories, buried secrets – and a proposition. One which tests their loyalty and forces them to confront their debt to the next generation.
Talk about the news, Rachel O’Riordan said: ” I’m absolutely delighted to be bringing Lucy Kirkwood’s thrilling play to the Lyric this September in its 10th anniversary production. Since its debut in 2016, it has become a modern classic and the themes of inter-generational accountability and environmental crisis have only become more relevant. It’s funny, moving and asks big questions around personal morality – what would any of us do if we were asked to do something so terrifying?
It’s also a joy to welcome Meera Syal back to the Lyric stage for the first time since 2019’s smash-hit Noises Off. I cannot wait for audiences to experience this bold, thrilling story anew in 2026.”
The creative team behind the production includes: Gary McCann (set and costume design), Anna Watson (lighting design) and Holly Khan (sound design).
