Broadway World: “In the two decades since this production debuted at Covent Garden, director David McVicar has gained a knighthood and the RBO has taken this reliable thoroughbred out for a run every couple of years. Now under the baton of Bertrand de Billy, it has more than earned its place in the pantheon of 21st century greats.”

Bachtrack.com: “Sir David McVicar’s production, celebrating its 20th anniversary, remains a lavish spectacle and, in this latest revival, it is lovingly dusted down by Leah Hausman. The space is well-used, the costumes are crisp and, most importantly, the chorus is brought to life with vivid attention.”

London Theatre.co.uk: “A version that pushes the piece’s dark undertones further would be fitting for the times in which we live. Nevertheless, the sheer beauty of McVicar’s production makes it a very worthy candidate for continuing revivals, and that score never fails to lift the spirits.”

The Stage: “Fine singing from a cast that includes Alex Esposito and Louise Alder graces David McVicar’s vintage staging of Mozart’s opera.”
