The newly announced season will bring together new writing, returning productions and contemporary performance.
The Riverside Studios has announced its full autumn programme as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
At the centre of the programme is REP: Radical Classical, presented by Flywheel Theatre Company, Veritas Productions and Riverside Studios. This repertory season sees five actors perform five classic plays from the 8th September to 10th October.
This particular season will include The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov, The School for Wives by Molière, Phaedra by Jean Racine, Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare and The Virtuous Burglar by Dario Fo.
Also announced as part of the upcoming autumn season will be Romeo and Hamed by debut writer Scott Horgan, which will run at the Riverside Studios from the 2nd to the 6th September. This reimagining of Shakespeare’s tragedy will explore themes of love, faith, family and belonging.
Following its sold-out London debut earlier this year, Imitations will transfer to the Riverside Studios from the 15th September until the 3rd October. Set in a Manchester flat, the play follows childhood best friends Bea and Frank as a surprise visit unearths old memories and long-buried truths.
Meanwhile, Cadel: Lungs on Legs created by Connor Delves (Studio 3, 13 October – 15 November) is a solo show which tells the true story of cycling legend Cadel Evans, the first Australian to win the Tour de France.
Are You Even Indian? Will take place in Studio 3 on the 17 – 29 November and is a dance drama y Mohit Mathur about a marriage built across cultures, as a British-born South Asian woman and an Indian-born man build a life together and find deeper questions waiting underneath: about culture, home, and belonging. When both your homes ask you to apologise for who you are, how do you decide where you belong?
From the 9th to the 13th September, The Song of Grace will take to the stage. Following a gifted violinist who has carried her grandmother Grace’s lullaby since childhood. When life takes an unexpected turn, the song returns, opening a path through memory, music and the questions she can no longer ignore. Created by The Prema Collective, the production weaves an original score performed live with theatre, dance and vivid visual storytelling, brought to life by an international ensemble of artists from ten countries.
Tony-award winning director and producer Andy Sandberg will also be directing a series of five plays in Riverside Studio’s Mainstage (Studio 2) from September 2026 – July 2027. The plays are largely set in contemporary America and explore globally relevant themes and topics. Among the plays to be performed include Affluenza, written and directed by Sandberg, alongside Sacrilegious by Oscar-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman and Expecting by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola, with further productions and casting to be announced.
