A wonderfully vibrant entertaining evening complete with dazzling choreography makes for a thrilling evening that showcases the Strictly Come Dancing star’s and his fellow dancers talents to perfection.
Offering a passionate, entertaining and wonderfully entertaining show, Nikita Kuzmin’s second show is a delight from start to finish.
The tour is named supernova which can be defined as “the colossal, cataclysmic explosion of a star” – but here it is clear that no one’s career is in danger of collapsing.
Taking us through Hollywood glamour, through to a exuberant mambo and samba sequence and thrillingly passionate take on Romeo & Juliet this is a show that leaves no stone unturned.
Created in collaboration with Burn the floor and choreographer Jason Gilkison, there is great diversity in the styles of dances and moves being executed by an extremely talented cast – led of course by Kuzmin and his special guest performer Karen Hauer.
There is so much energy and exuberance on display that it is hard not to be swept away with every new sequence. A particular standout is the routing to Romeo + Juliet, which moves effortlessly from the passion of the paso doble to the more romantic and contemporary stylings set to ‘I’m Kissing You’ which features some breathtaking choreography that sends shivers down the spin.
Another highlight point is the manbo and samba, set to songs by artists including Shakeira offers a real carnival vibe to the show – adding plenty of fun along the way. I did feel that the Hollywood inspired sequence could have had a little bit more to it and that the audience interaction, while giving Nikita and the ensemble a well deserved breather, felt a little bit forced.
But of course, a real highlight of the show is watching Nikita and Karen dancing together. Their timing is absolutely exquisite and a real treat for Strictly Come Dancing fans.
On a more personal note, hearing Nikita paying emotional tribute and performing a dance in honour of his grandfather was a beautifully poignant moment with aspects of the story that he tells ahead of this hitting home with me. That moment will always stick with me – not something that I can always say about a performance.
Credit should also be paid to the incredible talent in the form of the ensemble formed of Idney De’Almeida, Deavion Brown, Sasha Woodward (dance captain), Nick Chan, Fay Huddleston, Tom Watson & Anna Karelina. Each performer showcases great fluidity and timing to move from one sequence effortlessly. Meanwhile, singer Lois Faith offers knock out performances of songs such as ‘It’s Not Right (But It’s Okay)’ and ‘Sway’ that really add to the dynamic of the show and enhancing the energy overall.
The whole show covers such a range of dances with fabulous choreography by Jason Gilkison that allows for Nikita’s personality to really shine through, while his interactions with the audience showcases the fact he is comfortable within himself and not taking himself too seriously. There is real playfulness and joyfulness to this whole show that is hard to resist.
Overall, Supernova is a brilliantly entertaining show that highlights the talents of all those involved perfectly. It is electrifying to watch from start to finish.
