The display will explore ancient civilisations and is titled ‘Lost Worlds’.
It has been announced that from the Luxmuralis returns to the Old Royal Naval College with Lost Worlds which will illuminate the iconic Painted Hall.
Running from the 6th to the 15th November, will bring together projections with an original score to celebrate the art, myths and innovations of ancient civilisations, from the Egyptians and Romans to the Mayans and Anglo-Saxons. It has been created especially for the Painted Hall’s 300th anniversary.
Inspired by lost civilisations Lost Worlds journeys through sophisticated astronomical knowledge, illuminated medieval manuscripts, early maps of exploration, cave paintings, mythical kingdoms and the natural world. Luxmuralis weaves these themes into a
richly layered visual narrative that reveals the creativity, curiosity as well as imagination that have connected cultures across the centuries.
Drawing on legends, castles, knights, fantastical creatures and illuminated manuscripts, Lost
Worlds blurs the boundaries between history and myth. Intricate patterns and monumental
projections transform the architecture into a living storybook, where ancient knowledge,
folklore and artistic expression converge.
Luxmuralis is known for creating immersive experiences that transform some of Britain’s most significant heritage sites by using cutting-edge projection technology with an evocative
original soundtrack.
Lost Worlds forms part of the Old Royal Naval College’s ongoing creative collaboration with
artist Peter Walker. Alongside Walker’s forthcoming Peace Doves installation, these bespoke projections are among a series of major artistic commissions marking the Painted Hall’s
300th anniversary.
