We couldn’t resist a return trip to Secret Cinema’s immensely popular immersive take on Grease. Haven’t experienced it yet? Here’s a few reasons why you should!
It encourages you to get involved as much as you like – without feeling overwhelming:
Whether it is an impromptu dance off, a conga line or taking part in cheerleading on stage, this is a show that ensures that all of the audience feel completely immersed in the world of Rydell High and the story as it unfolds. I do highly recommend the roaming tickets as you can freely move around as each scene happens without feeling crushed. The performers are all excellent at judging at how comfortable people are about being approached – there were some really lovely encounters with the cast and younger audience members that put a smile on the face.
It brings together a wide range of people to sing their hearts out and enjoy the feeling of being at Rydell High:
Perfectly timed for the summer months, this is really an experience that brings together people of many different generations to enjoy seeing the film alongside experiencing the songs that we all know and love. The buzz and energy of all those attending really enhances the experience. Listening to the audience singing along to songs such as ‘Hopelessly devoted to You’ (which I saw a really lovely couple dancing as if they were in a world in their own too) and ‘Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee’ for example are really special and uniting moments.
The attention to detail:
Where else in London would you get to experience the joy of the film, the talents of an extraordinary cast – oh and of course a funfair that brilliantly sets the scene for the famous ending of the film. The attention to detail is exquisite and lives up to the promise of the immersive experience that audiences expect. Having different key areas that form important parts of the story adds to the excitement particularly with key details design wise that make you feel really part of the 1950’s. To say anymore would spoil the surprise for those yet to experience it.
Dressing up is encouraged:
It doesn’t feel like there are enough opportunities to get dressed up and immersed in a whole different era – so this is really welcome. It also means that the audience in their own way can feel as though they are a character part of the story as well (which links up nicely to the onstage moments that the audience can take part in as well).
The cast:
All of the cast give their all to their characters to ensure that the audience no matter where they are in the venue get the experience that they deserve. They all throw themselves into the roles with great enthusiasm and offer great personality to bring the characters to life in their own distinctive way.
