While a lot of people will be heading to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival, there is still plenty of theatre happening elsewhere!
Camden Fringe Festival:
As a great alternative to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for those not heading up to Scotland, the Camden Fringe Festival returns with its 20th anniversary programme from the 3rd to the 30th August. A great way to discover new writing and with ticket prices extremely affordable, this is a great way for theatre fans to experience new theatre.
Jeeves Takes Charge, Charing Cross Theatre:
For those looking for a bit of light relief, you might want to head to the Charing Cross Theatre for the return of this Olivier Award winning production, which stars Sam Harrison as both Jeeves and Bertie Wooster as well as plenty of other characters in the show. Adapted from the stories of P G Wodehouse by James Duke, Edward Duke and Hugh Wooldridge definitely expect plenty of laughs along the way as the story unfolds. It will play at the theatre from the 13th August until the 6th September.
Death Note: The Musical, Barbican:
Officially opening at the Barbican on the 11th August, this new musical is based on the best-selling Japanese manga of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba, Takeshi Obata and Shueisha. Death Note was first seen in London in concert back in 2023 and this will be the first time it is being fully staged. It is directed by Stephen Whitson, with choreography by Fabian Aloise.
Cats, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre:
Drew McOnie’s revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is set to officially open as part of the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s summer season on the 6th August. Featuring classic songs such as Deuteronomy, Macavity: The Mystery Cat, Jellicle Ball and Memory, this will be a great experience to witness as the sun goes down over London.
High School Musical, The Lowry:
Playing in Manchester for a limited season before heading to London, High School Musical is based on the popular film series. Step back into the world of. East High School, where Troy, Gabriella and their fellow students discover friendships and first loves. The cast is set to include Jason Donovan as coach Bolton, Tobias Turley, as Troy Bolton, Leonor Correia as Gabriella Montez, Caitlin Tipping as Sharpay Evans and Luke Bayer as Ryan Evans.
As You Like it, Shakespeare’s Globe:
From the 14th August until the 25th October, Shakespeare’s Globe invites audiences to run willd and free in the magic of the woods courtesy of Sean Holmes (Romeo and Juliet, Pinocchio, Globe) and Charlie Josephine’s (Pinocchio, Globe, Cowbois, RSC/Royal Court) production of As You Like it.
How the Other Half Loves, The Old Vic Theatre:
Officially opening on the 11th August, Phillip Breen’s production of Alan Ayckbourn’s play is set to star Roger Allam and Dorothy Atkinson. It is a comedy filled with chaos and confusion as the lives of three couples are unexpectedly intertwined….
