The gallery will present exhibitions devoted to the work of Amar Kanwar and Justin Caguiat.
The Serpentine Gallery has announced its two Autumn exhibitions for 2026, including the first UK institutional exhibition of new and recent works by Justin Caguiat, on view at Serpentine South from 8 October 2026 to 10 January 2027.
Before this, the gallery will present an exhibition of new and existing works that will transform the building into a meditative visual and sonic environment alongside the premiere of a new seven-screen film installation titled The Charcoal Man by artist Amar Kanwar.
This exhibition devoted to the work of Kanwar will be on display from the 23 September until 31 January 2027. For over two decades, Kanwar has created a body of films that move between documentary, travelogue and visual essay to explore the specific conditions of the Indian subcontinent. His works are frequently marked by the history of his country, tracing the legacies of decolonialisation and the Partition of India and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Serpentine Gallery will then present a series of new and recent works by UK institutional exhibition of new and recent works by Justin Caguiat.
This exhibition at Serpentine will build and expand on his recent Zodiac Machine project by bringing together painting, sculpture, printmaking, sound and film. Caguiat will engage with the gallery beyond its walls – using the architecture and infrastructure of the building to frame his paintings. A new site-specific installation of thermochromic paintings will be on view – through a use of heat-responsive pigment, these works constantly change in colour and reveal different shapes as they react to environmental factors such as temperature and light.
