We chatted to Kris about My Girl The River’s latest album ‘Manifest Good Things’.
Hi Kris, how are you finding the reaction to ‘Manifest Good Things’ so far?
So far so good! The reviews have been great and the feedback from the crowdfund supporters who got an early copy has been amazing. So thankful to know folks are enjoying it.
How does it feel to be touring the album?
It feels amazing! We have a full band this time around and are dropping into some fab venues. The band are working so hard and I am doing everything I can to make the show exciting and worth it to the audience. The Half Moon Putney gig on September 11 is going to be so much fun.
What was it like putting the album together?
It was really exciting. I was encouraged to do a crowdfund campaign. As it gained traction I really began to believe it was possible. The songs came together so nicely. I really love this album as a collection of songs. And the musicians that came on board to help us record, what a beautiful job they did. Someone recently said the album was I produced it and am immensely proud of the work we all did to make it happen. One a shoestring, really. And it’s our fourth album but first release on vinyl!
How did the idea for the album come about?
I had a couple of songs that we released in late 2025. I didn’t think I had an album. I was just going to focus on singles. But when my friends asked me to do a crowdfund, I thought well maybe we do have an album! And the title Manifest Good Things couldn’t be more true. I really feel like we just stayed positive and everything worked out. I had some new songs that worked beautifully but I also had some that had been waiting for their time to shine. I’m so happy with how it turned out.
You say that every song on the album means something to you but is there any that particularly resonate for you?
I love Teenage Geek – it’s me as a teenager. I started writing it years ago. I wanted it to be just ‘so’. And then I presented it to the band in the studio and they took it to a level I didn’t know we could reach! I also love Living Your Life and Where Does The Rain Come From. My husband loves Breadcrumbs on the Water. So… everyone has a favourite which is very cool.
My Girl The River will be performing at live music venue The Half Moon in Putney on the 11th September.
