Here’s a guide to some of the films to look out for in September.
Sense and Sensibility:
This new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel is directed by Georgia Oakley and adapted for the screen by Diana Reid. The cast includes Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood, Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood, George MacKay as Edward Ferrars and Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon. It is set to be released in cinemas on the 25th September.
Practical Magic 2:
This follow up to the 1998 immensely popular film, sees Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising their roles as Sally and Gillian who attempt to break the spell that has been placed on their family for years. Directed by Susanne Bier, it is based on the 2021 novel The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman. The film is set to be released on the 11th September.
The Death of Robin Hood:
It could be argued as to whether we need another Robin Hood film, however, Michael Sarnoski offers a much darker version of the legendary tale, which sees Hugh Jackman taking on the character. Release on the 2nd of September, the film follows the story of an aged Robin tormented by his past actions, living in self-imposed exile. When he is wounded, he takes shelter in a priory where he befriends the prioress and an orphaned girl. It is based on the dark 17th century ballad.
Everybody Digs Bill Evans:
This biographical film directed by Grant Gee is based on the novel Intermission by Owen Martell and tells the story of jazz musician Bill Evans (Anders Danielsen Lie). The film also stars Bill Pullman, Barry Ward, Laurie Metcalf, Valene Kane and Katie McGrath. It is set to be released on the 11th September.
Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom:
This latest stop motion film from Aardman is the third film in the Shaun the Sheep film series, a character who first appeared in A Close Shave alongside Wallace & Gromit. With a voice cast including Justin Fletcher, John Sparkes, Kate Harbour, Dani Dyer, Roman Kemp, Nina Sosanya and Paul Whitehouse. It is set to be released in cinemas on the 18th September.
Heart of the Beast:
Brad Pitt stars in David Ayer’s latest film set for release on the 25th September, which follows the story of a former Army Special Forces soldier and his retired combat dog, Odin, as they attempt to return to civilization after a plane crash out in the Alaskan wilderness.
