NEWS: Casting Announced for ‘The Master Builder’ at the Arcola Theatre

Casting has now been confirmed for Arcola Theatre’s Artistic Director Mehmet Ergen‘s production of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play, which will officially open at the theatre on the 22nd October.

As the young and beguiling Hilde Wangel, rising talent Louisa Binder (Your Fault: London, Amazon) plays alongside acclaimed actress Jade Williams (Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s Globe & Tour) as the devoted Kaja Fosli. Solness’ wife, Aline Solness, is brought to life by award-winning actor Sally George (People, Places and Things, National Theatre).

Ryan Wichert (The Queen’s Gambit, Netflix) and Robin Hooper (The Office, BBC) come together as son and father, Ragnar and Knut Brovik, with Peter Guinness (Richard III, Arcola Theatre) as Doctor Herdal. Joining the ensemble as understudy Ragnar is Josh Picton.

Halvard Solness, a leading architect at the height of his fame, is paralysed by fear. Fear of the younger generation. Fear of irrelevance. Fear of the past catching up with him.

When young, enigmatic Hilde Wangel bursts back into his world, she reminds him of the promise he made her ten years ago.

As she inspires him to even greater heights, Solness is forced to confront the true cost of his success. Will his final creation set him free, or be his downfall?

This production of The Master Builder has been adapted by David Edgar, with the creative team also including: Robert Innes Hopkins (set and costume designer), Richard Williamson (lighting designer), Deniz Dortok (sound designer), Rob Kelly (casting director) and Aoife Beaumont (assistant director).
