The English Folk Dance and Song Society, Angeline Morrison and the Black British Folk Collective will present the second Black British Folk Takeover next month.
Cecil Sharp House will welcome the second Black British Folk Takeover on the 17th October.
This festival style one day event will celebrate Black folk talent on the UK scene, curated by Angeline Morrison. The Black British Folk Takeover includes folk music styles from traditional ballad singing to contemporary, experimental folk-inspired music, as well as a live conversation on African diasporic identities and relationships with British folk, and a Folk Club led by the musicians and open to all audience members.
During the day, visitors can expect music from Dundee singer-songwriter Andrew Baird, fiddler Hamilton Gross and ethereal singer Angeline Morrison, British-Ugandan singer-songwriter Daudi Matsiko, groundbreaking English-Jamaican carnival legend Linett Kamala (in conversation), traditional Jamaican Maypole Dance led by Linett / LIN KAM ART, a participatory Folk Club for everyone to get involved, banjo star Island Girl (Bianca Wilson) and singer, songwriter and composer of British-Burundian heritage Muco.

Last year’s inaugural takeover was full of joy, expansiveness, creativity and incredible music celebrating some of the finest in contemporary Black British Folk music, culture, creativity and talent. We knew the community was thirsting for it, and it is such a deep joy to partner with our friends at the English Folk Song and Dance Society again, this time with the Black British Folk Collective, to make this very special day happen.”
