The exhibition programme will bring together well known names in architecture and contemporary art along with a major international collaboration that will introduce Sir John Soane to US audiences for the first time.
Sir John Soane’s Museum has announced its exhibition plans for 2027, which will include a major exhibition exploring the work of architect Zaha Hadid through her most celebrated museum designs, and an exciting intervention featuring new work by contemporary artist Gavin Turk, responding to the Museum and its building archive.
In addition the programme will also feature displays of work by former Artists in Residence, a showcase of outstanding drawings by artists and architects from across the globe in the latest edition of the Architectural Drawing Prize.
2027 will begin with Sir John Soane: The Poetry of Architecture, a landmark show created between the museum and and Yale School of Architecture which will go on display in America from the 14th January. It is the first monographic exhibition devoted to the
visionary British architect Sir John Soane ever presented in the US.
Meanwhile, in the UK from the 27th January The Architecture Drawing Prize will celebrate some of the very best works from the competition. The display brings together work by architects, designers and students from across the globe, to celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship of contemporary architectural drawing in its many forms.
Also opening in the 27th January is Sam Belinfante: All that I have to say is… which is a brand new film in which a mysterious couple are suspended in an uncanny dialogue. Stemming from his time as the first Artist in Residence at the Soane Museum in Spring 2023, Belinfante draws inspiration from Soane’s unique use of apertures, coloured glass and
reflective surfaces for theatrical effect, as well as his love of William Shakespeare.
Filmed within the Museum itself, the work will be restaged as an installation in the Foyle Space.
Heading into March, Zaha Hadid: Visionary Museum Designs will go oon display from the 24th March. This exhibition will explore the work of the Iraqi-British architect and feature major loans from the London-based Zaha Hadid Foundation. It will explore Hadid’s work through the lens of the many museum’s she worked on throughout her career, including celebrated projects such as the Lois and Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, USA (1997–2003); Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany (2000–05); and MAXXI: National Museum of XXI Century Arts in Rome, Italy (1998–2010).
Mohammed Qasim Ashfaq: Drawing in the Dark will see a new series of work being presented in the museum’s Foyle Space. Inspired by the careful and intentional placement of artworks
across the Museum spaces, Ashfaq has produced a series of detailed graphite drawings that explore architectural intricacies among Soane’s collection, weaving together many objects into unique geometric compositions.
Finally, from the 14th July Gavin Turk: Domestic Archaeology will see the artist creating new work in response to the Building Archive, which will be camouflaged among the permanent collection. A selection of objects from the Archive will also be on display, co-curated by
Turk and Deputy Director and Inspectress of Sir John Soane’s Museum,
