Here’s a guide to what is happening in the world of film this month…

The return of the BFI London Film Festival (7th-18th October):
Yes its that time of year again! The BFI London Film Festival is back, celebrating a wide range of films for audiences to enjoy. Among the highlights of this year’s festival include the European Premiere of Simon Stone’s Elsinore and the UK Premiere of Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut. Tom Cruise stars in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest film in which the world’s most powerful man embarks on a quest he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything. The film also stars Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Oscar nominee Jesse Plemons. It is out in cinemas now.
The Social Reckoning:
Aaron Sorkin has written and directed this new film inspired by true events of a whistleblower as seen through the eyes of Facebook engineer who enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz, a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets. It is out in cinemas on the 9th October.
The Other Mommy:
Also arriving this month is James Wan and Rob Savage’s new horror film ‘The Other Mommy’. Set for release on the 9th October, the film stars Academy Award® winner Jessica Chastain (It Chapter Two, The Eyes of Tammy Faye) who plays both Bela’s mum and the sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother who builds a relationship with Bella to terrifying effect.
Ghosts: The Possession of Button House:
For something a little more family friendly that is filled with spooks but also laughter, then you will definitely want to catch this big screen take on the hit BBC comedy series which features all of the original cast – with plenty of chaos along the way. It is set to be released in cinemas on the 23rd October.
