NEWS: The History Boys to Return to the West End

It has been announced that the National Theatre production of Alan Bennett’s The History Boys will return to the London stage for the first time in twenty years.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the play follows eight pupils at a boys’ grammar school in Sheffield as they get ready for university entrance examinations. It explores themes such as  education, class, sexuality and adolescence.

With tickets on sale now, casting for this revival will be announced in January next year.

The production will be designed by Bob Crowley and produced by Brian and Dayna Lee and Hytner (who collaborated on West End hits like Giant), alongside Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen for Access Entertainment.

Nicholas Hytner: “More than 20 years after it opened, it’s the right time to be bringing this great and much loved play back to the London stage. I can’t wait to take another look at it, and to introduce it to a new generation of theatre goers. My collaboration with Alan Bennett has been central to my creative life, and it’s a delight to be back in the theatre with him again.”
