New Musical Comedy The Smallest Show on Earth to Tour UK from September

Featuring music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and directed by Thom Southerland, this new musical comedy is based on the Peter Sellers and Margaret Rutherford film The Smallest Show on Earth.

Some of the songs featured in the stage show include: Let Yourself Go, Steppin’ Out With My Baby and Blue Skies. Director Southerland commented: “Berlin’s music provides the perfect accompaniment to our 1950’s story, not only in lyric, but in style and period too.”

The UK tour of the production will open at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester on the 25th September before heading to Coventry , High Wycombe, Glasgow, Plymouth and Swansea.

Matt and Jean Spenser inherit a cinema and assume that their fortune is made. But the Bijou is known as a flea pit and a victim of a dirty tricks campaign from its flashy rival The Grand. With the help of manageress Mrs Fazackalee and unreliable projectionist Mr Quill, the pair must outwit The Grand and restore the Bijou to its former glory.

The film originally starred Peter Sellers and Margaret Rutherford and was released in 1957 through British Lion.

This new version will star Liza Goddard,Brian Capron, Haydn Oakley and Laura Pitt-Pulford. Set and costume will be designed by David Woodhead, choreography by Lee Proud, lighting design by Howard Hudson and sound design by Andrew Johnson.
