Still going strong at the Cambridge theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Roald Dahl’s book has announced new cast changes from Tuesday 15th September.
Evie Hone and Lizzie Wells will be joining Anna-Louise Knight and Lara McDonnell as the title role of Matilda. In addition to the four young actresses, Michael Begley (Mr Wormwood), Miria Parvin (Miss Honey) and Rebecca Thornhill (Mrs Wormwood) will also be joining the cast. Craige Els will be continuing in the role of Miss Trunchbull.
This news comes as it was also announced that the Australian premiere of the production will be taking place in Sydney on the 20th August at the Lyric Theatre.
The musical had originally premiered at the RSC’s The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon in November 2010, before transferring London’s West End in October 2011.
It’s success in the West End was sealed, when the production won seven awards at the 2012 Olivier awards – and now has achieved similar success on Broadway, having won four Tony Awards, having opened at the Shubert Theatre in 2013.
Last year, the show celebrated its 1000th performance in London and is currently booking until May 2016 at the Cambridge Theatre.
Everyone who I know who has been to see it has ranted and raved about how great it is and yes it is shocking to admit that I have yet to see it (look there are a lot of shows to see and I’m only one person!) but clearly it remains one of the top shows to visit if you come to London.
I loved the book and film when I was growing up so there is no real reason not to see this show – except that I’m worried that it won’t live up to my expectations from reading the book. However, I would be more than happy to be proved wrong!
So here’s the trailer to show exactly what I have been missing out on!
