Preview: Hapgood @Hampstead Theatre

The Hampstead Theatre will be presenting Tom Stoppard’s play Hapgood from the 4th December to 16th January 2016 it has been announced.

Directed by Howard Davies, the play is set in London in 1988 as The Cold War approaches its endgame. But somebody in spymaster Elizabeth Hapgood’s network is leaking secrets. Is her favourite Double Agent in fact a Triple agent? But the trap she sets to find out soon becomes a hall of mirrors in which betrayal is personal and treachery a trick of the light.

HAPGOOD FINAL

Tom Stoppard’s most recent play is The Hard Problem. Other plays include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead  and Jumpers. Stoppard’s long list of screenplays include Anna Karenina, The Romantic English Woman and Shakespeare in Love, which won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Howard Davies returns to the Hampstead Theatre following the critically acclaimed 55 Days and Drawing the Line. His numerous credits include: Children of the Sun (National Theatre), Macbeth (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Almeida and Aldwych Theatre). He has been Associate Director for the National Theatre, Almeida Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Casting for Hapgood has yet to be announced.

Booking is now open for Hampstead Theatre Friends and Patrons. Public booking opens on Monday 21st September at 10.30 am.
