Launching as part of London Fashion Week, make up artist Lan Nguyen Grealis’s new book Art & Makeup showcases a number of different influences on her make up design from theatre and film to artists such as Picasso.

The book features a number of photographs by renowned photographer Rankin as well as tips and hints on how to create some of these looks.
Grealis’s style and skill has led her to working with some well known and legendary names including David Bailey, Rankin, Paloma Faith, Amber Le Bon and Bianca Jagger to name a few.

Art & Make up is filled with a number of stunning ideas inspired by art, cinema, sculpture and performance art including references to Marie Antoinette, Cleopatra and The Great Gatsby.
Showing how closely art and make up are linked the book complements the imagery of the book with a second part which deconstructs the techniques and used to create some of the looks for people to recreate themselves. Also featured, is an insiders guide to the industry itself – including quotes and tips from professionals such as makeup artists, fashion designers, photographers and celebrity stylists.

On Thursday 17th September, special guests were invited to attend the book launch which included a catwalk show that showed off some of the looks created in the book off to the full.
Guests who attended the launch included: Paloma Faith, Kimberley Garner, Tallia Storm, Linzi Stoppard and Jessica Wright.

The catwalk show featured many of the more dramatic looks that feature in the book, but also the wide variety of influences that helped to create Art & Make up.
Lan Nguyen -Grealis moved to London in 1992 to study Fashion Design with Marketing at Central Saint Martins. But it was during her last year that her final piece was destroyed after the ceiling of the place she had been working collapsed. But as she was paying off her student fees by working as a coffee girl in a photo studio, the team were short staffed one day and she was asked to step in. She soon picked up a makeup brush and hasn’t looked back since.
She has gone on to become the youngest Golden Mask Award Winner for Makeup Art (2013) and was named overall winner at the National Professional Makeup Awards in 2011.

Art and Makeup by Lan Nguyen Grealis is published by Laurence King Publishing and is on sale for £28 now.
