The Old Vic Theatre has announced the full cast joining Bertie Carvel in Richard Jones’ new production of The Hairy Ape, running at the the theatre from the 17th October until the 21st November.

This second production in Matthew Warchus’ opening season as Artistic Director of the Old Vic, will see the theatre returned to its original proscenium arch layout.
The Hairy Ape is a masterpiece that was written by the Nobel-prize winner Eugene O’Neill, which tells the story of Yank (Bertie Carvel), a labourer who revels in his status as the strongest stoker on a transatlantic ocean liner. But when he is called ‘a dirty beast’, he is forced to confront primal questions about his true place in the world.

The full cast will include: Adam Burton, Buffy Davis, Callum Dixon, Steffan Rhodri, Rosie Sheehy, Nicholas Karimi, Christopher Akrill, Charlie Cameron and Phil Hill.
The show will be directed by Richard Jones whose previous theatre credits include: Too Clever by Half, A Flea in Her Ear and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Royal Shakespeare company. It will be designed by Stewart Laing, choreographed by Aletta Collins and will feature lighting by Mimi Jordan Sherin.
