New production images for The Hairy Ape, the second production in Matthew Warchus’ first season as Artistic Director of the Old Vic, have been released today following the show opening for previews at the theatre on Saturday.

Directed by Richard Jones, the production will see the Old Vic transformed back into its original proscenium arch layout.
The Hairy Ape was written by Nobel Prize winner Eugene O’Neill and tells the story of Yank (Bertie Carvel) a labourer who revels in his status as the strongest stoker on a ocean liner. But this changes when he is called a ‘filthy beast’ by the daughter of a steel merchant and forces him to search for a way to belong. Yank has to confront questions about his true place in the world.

As well as starring Bertie Carvel as Yank, the cast also includes: Adam Burton, Buffy Davis, Callum Dixon, Steffan Rhodri, Rosie Sheehy and Nicholas Karimi.
The production features designs by Stewart Laing, choreography by Aletta Collins, lighting by Mimi Jordan Sherin and sound by Sarah Angliss.
The Hairy Ape is now in previews at the Old Vic Theatre. It officially opens on the 29th October. To book tickets visit: the Old Vic Theatre website , Theatre Tickets Direct.co.uk, Discount Theatre.com , Last Minute.com and Love Theatre.com . The production runs until the 21st November.
