News: Cast Announced for UK Tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Casting has been announced for the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Music & Lyrics Ltd production of the much loved musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, heading off on a UK tour in 2016.

The tour, which opens at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton on the 10th February will see Jason Manford playing Caractacus Potts from the 10th February to the 24th April, and returning to the show in October. Lee Mead will play Caractacus from the 4th May until the 18th September.

Other casting includes Martin Kemp as the Childcatcher, Amy Griffiths as Truly Scrumptious, Phil Jupitus as Lord Scrumptious/Baron Bomburst – all until the 24th April. Michelle Collins will also star as Baroness Bomburst, Andy Hockley as Grandpa Potts and Ewen Cummins as The Toy Maker/ Mr Coggins.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang features music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, who also wrote the music for Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book. Songs include: Hushabye Mountain, Toot Sweets and of course the memorable Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The film was adapted from Ian Fleming’s classic story and has now been adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams, based on the MGM Motion Picture Licensed script adapted by Ray Roderick.

Before it heads off on a UK tour, the production will open at the West Yorkshire Playhouse with the previously announced cast on the 2nd of December, for a nine week season that will finish on the 30th January ahead of the tour.
