The Royal Opera House is preparing to present the world premiere of Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas’s new opera Morgen Und Abend in the main house from the 13th to the 28th November.

Directed by Graham Vick, the production is a co-commission and co-production between The Royal Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin .

This new opera is based on the novel of the same name by the award-winning Norwegian author Jon Fosse who has written the libretto (in German and English) for the new piece of work.

The day begins like any other for fisherman Johannes but it soon develops into a momentous experience as he discovers the world has changed. His daughter doesn’t seem to notice him, yet he is able to meet his wife and friend – both who have been dead for a long time. Morgen Und Abend reflects on the journey from life to death as it deals with themes of sadness, mystery and hope.

This world premiere will see Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brandauer making his Royal Opera debut as Olai, alongside German baritone Christoph Pohl, British-German soprano  Sarah Wegener and Dutch contralto Helena Rasker also making their debuts at the Royal Opera House and German tenor Will Hartmann .
