Matthew Bourne’s gothic version of the fairytale classic Sleeping Beauty, is currently touring the UK and arrives at the New Victoria Theatre next month.

Recently knighted in the Queen’s New Year Honours list 2016, Sir Matthew Bourne celebrates Tchaikovsky’s music as well as completing the trio of the composer’s ballet works that started with Nutcracker! (1992) and of course the 1995 hit Swan Lake.
A mixture of the traditional good vs.evil tale and a supernatural romance, the piece has plenty to offer audiences of all ages.
Sleeping Beauty originally premiered in 2012 and was the fastest selling production in New Adventures history – selling out completely during its original visit to the New Victoria Theatre in 2013.
The production was created to mark the 25th anniversary of New Adventures and won over audiences, smashing box office records across the UK. It has gone on to win three Los Angeles Drama Critic Awards and the Ovation Award for Best Production.
Talking about Sleeping Beauty’s success Matthew Bourne said: “For me, it is one of New Adventures finest achievements and the piece of which I am personally most proud. It also celebrates 20 years of working with my brilliant colleague, Lez Brotherston, who was rightly nominated for an Olivier Award for his glorious work on this production. I’m delighted that New Adventures will be waking up the Princess Aurora after only three years – 100 years seemed just too long to wait!”
The cast for this first revival includes Ashley Shaw (The Car Man, Edward Scissorhands) as Aurora, Cordelia Braithwaite, Dominic North, Chris Trenfield, Christopher Marney, Liam Mower, Adam Maskell and Tom Clark.
Sleeping Beauty is directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne working again with three of his regular collaborators and New Adventures Associate Artists; Lez Brotherston (Set and Costumes), Paule Constable (Lighting) and Paul Groothuis (Sound Design).
Sleeping Beauty will appear at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking from the 2nd to the 6th February. To book ticket visit: ATG Tickets .
