It has been announced that the Jermyn Street Theatre will present the first UK revival of the Off-Broadway and West End Musical I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking it On the Road.
The new production of the musical with music and lyrics by Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford, will be the first time it has been seen in London for 35 years, following its run at the Apollo Theatre.
Directed by Matthew Gould, the cast for the run at the Jermyn Street Theatre will include West End stars Landi Oshinowo (Shrek, Barnum, Sister Act) and Nicolas Colicos (Mamma Mia, Sunset Boulevard, Sister Act, The Bodyguard).
I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road challenges gender roles through the exploration of friendships, relationships and the pursuit of personal goals.
The musical tells the story of singer songwriter Heather Jones who is finally breaking out of her celebrity mould, reaching for a new life as a new woman – no longer ‘daughter’, ‘wife’ and ‘celebrity product’. Music and lyrics are from the Broadway and Off-Broadway musical duo of Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford.
Director Matthew Gould said: “I am thrilled to have the chance to direct one of my favourite musicals at the Jermyn Street Theatre, London’s leading Off West End studio theatre. We have put together a talented West End cast to bring an exciting and contemporary interpretation of the show to London this summer.”
I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road will appear at the Jermyn Street Theatre from the 6th to the 23rd July.
