Today the Shakespeare’s Globe confirmed Artistic Director Emma Rice’s first Winter season in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
The Wonder Noir Winter season will run at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from the 26th October until the 16th April 2017.
This new season will open with a production of John Milton’s Comus: A Masque in Honour of Chastity , which will be directed by Lucy Bailey and will run from the 26th October until the 19th November.
It will then be continued with Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Matchgirl and Other Happier Tales , running from the 24th November until the 22nd January 2017 and will be directed by Emma Rice.
The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse will also see the return of Jonathan Munby’s production of All the Angels – Handel and the First Messiah, which first appeared at the Playhouse during the Winter 2015 season. It will play at the venue from the 6th December until the
John Webster’s The White Devil will appear on stage from the 26th January until the 16th April in a production directed by Annie Ryan.
The season will then close with a production of Othello, directed by Ellen McDougall – running at the venue from the 23rd February until the 16th April.
Casting and the rest of the creative teams for each production has yet to be announced.
