NEWS: Casting Announced for Shakespeare’s Globe Production of John Milton’s Comus

The Shakespeare’s Globe has announced the casting for the production of John Milton’s Comus which will play at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from the 26th October until the 19th November. 


Lucy Bailey’s production is the first in Emma Rice’s inaugural winter season in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

John Milton’s masque tells of an unnamed heroine lost in the woods who encounters Comus, God of Revelry.

The title role of Comus, God of Revelry, will be played by Danny Lee Wynter. He will be joined by Emma Curtis, Rob Callender, Theo Cowan, Andrew Bridgmont, Philip Cumbus, Paul Bullion, Suzie Chard, Phil Snowden and Natasha Magigi.

Deep in the woods, a Lady is lost, exhausted and separated from her brothers. After encountering a mysterious stranger – Comus, the God of Revelry – who promises refuge, she finds herself trapped in a magical palace, unable to move from a cursed chair. Tempted by pleasure, torn between wantonness and virtue, the Lady enters a warped world of wonder and horror, where gender, sexuality and morality prove fluid and unpredictable.

Director Lucy Bailey returns to the Globe following acclaimed productions of of Titus Andronicus (2006 and 2014), Timon of Athens (2008) and Macbeth (2010). The production is designed by William Dudley.
