With so many shows opening this month, here is a guide to some of the ones to look out for.
Treasure Island, St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden: already in previews, this promenade performance of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story is perfect viewing on a Summer’s evening, presented by Iris Theatre. Booking until 28th August.
The Secret Garden, Ambassadors Theatre: this is a special 70 minute production of of the 1991 Tony-Award- winning Broadway musical, based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s timeless story and is directed by Rupert Hands. Booking until 31st August.
Yerma, Young Vic Theatre: officially opening on Thursday and starring Billy Piper, Yerma is one woman’s tale of her desire to have a child. The production is directed by Simon Stone, his first original work in the UK. Booking until 24th September.
Allegro, Southwark Playhouse: this is a rare opportunity to see this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, which is making its European premiere in London this month. It is a story of self-discovery, love and of course realising the importance of family. 5th August-10th September.
Groundhog Day, Old Vic Theatre: having opened for previews last month, opening night is fast approaching for this brand new musical based on the hit film. Directed by Matthew Warchus and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, this is a hotly anticipated musical – so if you plan on going, book now! Booking until 17th September.
The Entertainer, Garrick Theatre: Kenneth Branagh’s final production in this year long season at the Garrick reintroduces audiences to John Osborneʼs modern classic. As well as Branagh starring as Archie Rice, the cast also includes Gawn Grainger. Booking until the 12th November.
Unfaithful, Found111: having had successful runs of Bug and The Dazzle at the venue, this London premiere of Owen McCafferty’s blackly comic play. The production is set to star Matthew Lewis, Sean Campion, Niamh Cusack and Ruta Gedmintas. 25th August- 8th October.
