A brand new production of the musical 42nd Street will be opening for previews at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on the 20th March 2017 it has been confirmed.
The new production of the musical will be directed by Mark Bramble, who wrote the book for the musical alongside Michael Stewart.
42nd Street features a score by Harry Warren and Al Dubin and is based on on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the subsequent 1933 Hollywood film adaptation of the same name. It is a classic backstage musical, which follows director Julian Marsh as he attempts to put on a brand new musical production during the height of the Great Depression.
The original production opened on Broadway in 1980, going onto win a Tony award for Best Musical and running until January 1989. It originally appeared in the West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1984, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, eventually going on to win an Olivier Award for Best Musical. The last revival of the musical was at the Dominion Theatre in 1990.
This new production will feature choreography by Randy Skinner, scenic design by Douglas W Schmidt and costume design by Roger Kirk, with casting yet to be confirmed.
