The Leeds based touring ballet company brings Shakespeare’s story to life with Jean-Christophe Maillot’s choreography, touring from the 14th September to the 15th October.

From the powerful music composed by Sergei Prokofiev to the passionate and tragic story written by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet is a timeless and romantic ballet and the Northern Ballet are preparing to let it take flight on stage again with a brand new tour.

Prokofiev’s score will be performed live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia in this first collaboration between Northern Ballet and choreographer Maillot.

Jean-Christophe Maillot’s Romeo and Juliet is a modern interpretation of the classic story of tragedy and love, bringing all of the extreme emotions and drama to the stage once more.

Talking about the production, Jean-Christophe Maillot said: “In this adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, my primary objective is to sincerely portray the powerful emotions to the audience so that they share in the passionate love of the young couple and take a journey with them.”

Meanwhile, Northern Ballet’s Artistic Director, David Nixon OBE, commented: “ This is a new production for our audiences to experience and reflect upon and I am delighted that we were the first British company to present Jean-Christophe Maillot’s work.”

Northern Ballet will present Romeo and Juliet at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking from the 4th to the 8th October. To book tickets visit ATG Tickets
