Apples and Snakes and Spiegeltent Canary Wharf will present the show Generations, which showcases new and veteran poets in one place. The show will take place on the 27th September.
Over the last 30 years, some poets have been working with music or use it within their written work for effect. The purpose of the show is to showcase the work of new and established poets on one platform.
The lineup for this show includes poet Jean Binta Breeze, known for working in dub throughout her career. Meanwhile, Charlie Dark is a strong part of the UK’s poetry and performance scene as a writer, producer and DJ – best known for flamboyant gestures and vocal gymnastics.
The headline act for the event will be dub poet Roger Robinson who will perform alongside DJ Disrupt from his critically acclaimed 2015 album Dis Side Ah Town, released last year.
The idea behind Generations came about in 2011 when King Midas Sound’s Roger Robinson returned to Brixton from touring and walked into the centre of the London riots. From then, he felt compelled to tell the stories of the people he saw rioting on the street that night. With disrupt’s dub soundtrack, the album unfolds like a documentary film, showcasing Roger’s poetry and singing styles over the sonic tower blocks and underground caverns of disrupt’s dub soundscapes, evoking the golden era of dub poetry.
