Actor Rufus Sewell, who is appearing in ITV’s drama Victoria, will lead the cast of the Old Vic’s revival of Yasmina Reza’s Art.
Translated by Christopher Hampton and directed by Matthew Warchus , the production will also star Tim Key and Paul Ritter.
Yasmina Reza’s Art evolves around three friends and a white painting and is described as “dazzling study of friendship, prejudice and tolerance.” The play premiered in London twenty years ago and went on to win an Olivier Award and also went on to win the Molière Award in France and Tony Award in New York. The original production starred Ken Stott, Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay.
Tim Key will play Yvan and returns to the Old Vic after appearing in Tree and is best known his TV appearances on Midmorning Matters (alongside Alan Partridge), Peep Show and Foreign Bodies.
Meanwhile, Paul Ritter will play the role of Marc. He won an Olivier Award for his performance as Otis Gardiner in ‘Coram Boy’ at the National Theatre. Other stage credits include playing John Major opposite Helen Mirren in The Audience, as well as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and The Hothouse.
Rufus Sewell was last seen on the London stage at the Donmar Warehouse in a production of Closer. Other stage credits include an Olivier-nominated turn in Arcadia at the National Theatre, as well as Old Times, Macbeth, Rat in the Skull, Translations and Making It Better.
The production will feature scenic design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Mic Pool, and music by Gary Yershon.
