The first teaser trailer for the latest instalment for the new Pirates of the Caribbean film starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Javier Bardem and Brenton Thwaites has been released.
Set for release in May 2017, the film will see Captain Jack Sparrow being pursued by an old rival, Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) who along with his crew have escaped from Devil’s Triangle to kill every pirate at sea. Meanwhile Captain Jack is trying to find Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that grants its possessor total control over the seas, in order to defeat Salazar.
The teaser trailer interestingly doesn’t feature Johnny Depp at all, with film makers perhaps deciding to keep his part in the film under cover until the proper trailer or due to the recent turmoil in his personal life perhaps it was better to focus on a different side to the film.
But whatever the reason, this new trailer allows us to get a glimpse of a couple of new characters and also show how there is very much a darker side to the film series than perhaps audiences have seen so far.
We are given a glimpse Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar who seems to be charmingly sinister and definitely a suitable villain that will be appreciated by the audience.
As you would expect, there is a lot of reliance on CGI and it looks of the highest quality, enhancing the imaginative qualities of the story and the film. But could this make the film in danger of being over reliant and too competitive in comparison with the numerous other films which use CGI.
However, as this is a teaser trailer not much is properly given away of the plot and what direction the film is going to take. But it does give a glimpse of the darker direction the film series is taking and it will be interesting to see what the first full length trailer will reveal.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be released in cinemas on the 26th May 2017.
